Sambar rice is one of the common main course meal of South India.

You can have Sambar Rice using 18 ingredients and 8 steps. Here is how you achieve it.

Ingredients of Sambar Rice

  1. You need 150 gm of boiled rice.

  2. You need 50 gm of toor dal.

  3. Prepare 5 of red chilli.

  4. It’s 15 of small onion (cut into two).

  5. You need 2 of tomato.

  6. It’s 5 tablespoon of sambhar powder.

  7. It’s 1/2 cup of beans.

  8. You need 1 of small size carrot.

  9. It’s 1 of small size radish.

  10. You need 1 of brinjal.

  11. Prepare 1/2 of drumstick.

  12. It’s 1/2 tablespoon of turmeric powder.

  13. It’s 1/2 tablespoon of Asafoetida.

  14. It’s 1 tablespoon of mustard seeds.

  15. It’s as needed of Curry and coriander leaves.

  16. It’s 20 ml of cooking oil.

  17. You need 30 ml of ghee.

  18. It’s to taste of Salt.

It is rich in nutrients as it contains lots of vegetables and lentils.

Sambar rice is also known as Sambar sadam in state of Tamilnadu.

Cook rice with needed water and keep it aside.

Sambar Rice step by step

  1. First soak rice and dal together for 1/2 an hour.Its about 1 glass (measure 200 ml).

  2. Keep the pressure cooker on a small burner,add 20 ml oil to it,season it with mustard then add red chilli,onion,tomato,vegetables,keep frying.

  3. Then add asafoetida,turmeric powder,sambar powder,salt, fry it for 2 minutes.

  4. Add 500 ml water to it,allow to boil,then add soaked rice and dal,stir occasionally,while gets boiling close the cooker and put whistle on it.

  5. When first whistle came,keep the flame to sim for 5 minutes,switch off the stove.

  6. Once the air released,stir it with 50 ml ghee,add curry and coriander leaves for garnish.

  7. You can serve it with onion raitha.

  8. Our delicious sambar rice is ready for all.
