I have never imagined such rasam before, but when Sangeeta sent the picture it was quite appealing.

Ingredients of Beetroot Rasam (Soup)

  1. You need 1 of . Beetroot - 1 grated.

  2. Prepare 2 of . Tomato - 1/2.

  3. Prepare 3 of . Tamarind water - 1 amla size.

  4. You need 4 of . Cumin - 1 tsp.

  5. It’s 5 of . Garlic - 4.

  6. You need 6 of . Pepper - 1/2 tsp.

  7. It’s 7 of . Toor dal - 1tsp.

  8. Prepare 8 of . Mustard - 1/2 tsp.

  9. Prepare 9 of . Red chilli - 1 broken.

  10. You need 10 of . Turmeric - 1/4 tsp.

  11. It’s 11 of . Hing - pinch.

  12. You need 12 of . Curry leaves - 1 string.

  13. You need 13 of . Coriander leaves - 1 tbsp chopped.

Beetroot Rasam - A traditional comforting Karnataka soup made with beetroot.

Beetroot rasam is served with rice.

It can also be enjoyed as a plain soup.

But beetroot liquid cant be added as beetroot liquid is very strong on its own.

Beetroot Rasam (Soup) instructions

    1. In pressure cooker add toor dal, grated beetroot, tomato, turmeric powder and a tsp of oil. Add couple cups of water and cook in pressure cooker for 2 whistles.
  1. Once done mash it and drain. Keep the water aside.

  2. Now use pestle or motor crumble garlic, cumin and pepper. Add this to tamarind water..

    1. Heat kadai add oil, mustard, curry leaves and red chilli. Once this splutter add beetroot water, tamarind water and hing. Add enough salt.
  3. Let it boil in medium heat for 5 minutes.

  4. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or you can have it directly. Its bit sweet and very tasty foods for kids..

Not to mention the strong color.

So we make a rasam out of it.
