How to Cook Tasty Suya Delicious, fresh and tasty.

Suya. These savory kebabs, known as suya, are a tasty meal sold in Nigeria by street vendors made with tri steak, red bell pepper, and mushrooms. Suya or tsire is a spicy meat skewer which is a popular food item in West Africa. It is also eaten in Sudan, referred to as "Agashe".

The thinly sliced meat is marinated in various spices which include peanut cake, salt, vegetable oil and other flavorings, and then barbecued.

One of my favorite memories of Nigeria was Suya.

It was sold beside the road, a nigerian vendor with sticks of meat over a brazier.

You can cook Suya using 4 ingredients and 5 steps. Here is how you cook it.

Ingredients of Suya

  1. It’s of Ram meat.

  2. It’s of Suya spice mix.

  3. It’s of Oil.

  4. Prepare of Sliced onions.

They servied it with a piece of paper and cayenne pepper.

I overlooked the raw meat on the side of the road and just figured the heat would kill anything that should not be there.

Suya instructions

  1. Cook meat in its own water. Add curry and thyme with some liquid Maggi.

  2. Mix the suya spice. Cut meat into slices and rub oil. Rub Suya spice followed by oil again.

  3. Grill for 10 minutes on each side.

  4. Serve with sliced onions, tomato, cabbage etc..

I was intrigued when I found out the spice rub is made from ground peanuts and a blend of different seasonings.

Suya is a traditional method of West African barbecue originating from the people of the Hausa tribe, one of the largest ethnic groups in Africa.

It is a dish of grilled beef (or other meats) which are rubbed with a spice mixture called yaji, thought to have powerful, invigorating properties.
