How to Make Delicious Panchratna dal khichri Delicious, fresh and tasty.

Panchratna dal khichri. I am taking the simple dal khichdi to the next level by using panchratna dal and brown rice to prepare the khichdi. It is wholesome, nutritious and delicious. I have discussed about Panchratna dal in my earlier post.

Khichdi is also my go-to food when I need to cook something hot and tasty, but don't have much time on hand.

Khichdi made with rice, mixed lentils, and veggies is a big-time favourite at home.

Ingredients of Panchratna dal khichri

  1. It’s of green mung dal (split).

  2. It’s of black urad dal (split).

  3. Prepare of masoor dal (pink).

  4. Prepare of chana dal.

  5. It’s of arhar / tur dal.

  6. Prepare of rice.

  7. It’s of large tomato chopped.

  8. Prepare of ghee.

  9. Prepare of cumin seeds.

  10. It’s of aesfoetida.

  11. You need of green chilli.

  12. You need of chopped coriander leaves.

  13. You need of turmeric powder.

  14. It’s of Salt.

The Panchratna daal here reminds me of the bajra khichri eaten for breakfast in Jodhpur.

Bajra and moth daal simmered in milk over a wood fire all night and served with dollops of white butter for breakfast, with nothing more than salt for a flavouring!

Panchratna dal khichri instructions

  1. Sort and wash dal and rice carefully. Mix all dal with rice..

  2. Now, take this mixture in a pressure cooker, add 3 cups of water, chopped tomatoes, salt and turmeric powder. Pressure cook for 2-3 whistles on medium heat. Open the lid when pressure is released. If required, add little more water..

  3. Furthermore, heat a pan with ghee. Add cumin seeds, let it crackle, then add aesfoetida and green chilli. And add this tadka in the cooked khichri. Mix well and simmer boil for 2 minutes..

  4. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot in combination with chokha, curd, pickle and papad..

I usually mix all the dals together and store it.

When I need to make panchmel dal or panchratna khichdi or adai, I take from the mixture, which is much easier.
