Last Sunday I made this masala khichdi with vegetables, rice, moong dal and spices easily in a pressure cooker instead of veg biryani.

We all loved it very much.

It was a tummy filling, healthy and tasty North Indian style lunch.

Usually I make plain moong dal khichdi for Sendhil whenever he suffers from stomach upset problems for easy digestion.

Masala Dal Khichdi instructions

  1. Assemble all the ingredients that it becomes easy while making dal khichdi. Take a cooker heat oil in it. Add jeera, garlic and chopped green chillies. Sauté for a while..

  2. Then at all the masala and mix well. Now add rice,dal and water..

  3. Close the lid of the cooker. Give it 5 whistles. After that let it cool for 5 minutes. Dal khichdi is ready..

  4. Now we will prepare tadka. Heat oil in a pan, add jeera to it. Then add dry Red chillies and Kashmiri red chilli powder, mix well and spread it over the khichdi..

This marathi khichdi is made with rice and yellow dal lentil with minimal spices and flavorings.

The addition of goda masala and coconut makes it more interesting and delicious.

I have added few vegetables along with tomatoes and onions to make it a hearty and filling meal.

With time, I have been trying different variations of Khichdi and they all turned finger-licking.
