Usually the simple khichdi is made using only rice, lentil (usually moong dal since it's very light on the stomach) salt and. toor dal or chana dal based curries can lead to indigestion or even some time bloated belly. but moong dal is totally different and hence that is the reason dal khichdi recipe is served to kids too.

  1. First washed and soaked all lentils in water for half hour. meanwhile cut the onion into thin slices, chopped the tomatoes and green chiili..

Take a pressure cooker add oil heat it and fry half onion slices until it becomes golden brown.transfer in a plate then add whole spices in the oil and saute few seconds.now add left onion saute when it becomes light brown then add tomatoes,green chilli,1 tsp salt,garam masala powder and red chilli powder.cooked until the tomatoes turn soft.now add the soaked dal and add 1 cup water.cover and cooked for 2-3 whistles..

  3. Take rice in a wok,add water, cumin seeds and salt as taste.cooked the rice 80%.strain the water and keep the cooked rice aside..

  4. Now open the cooker dal has cooked then add boil rice and small amount of water.mix well cover and cooked again for one whistle.turn off the flame and release the pressure naturally.the khichdi is ready..

Once vegetables are cooked, add oats and mix it well.

This is just roasting dal and rice in a tsp of ghee for quite a long time till it is golden and roasted.

Now add some roasted cumin and asaofetida and powder them finely.

I have used a mix of tur dal and moong dal to prepare this dal khichdi.
