Dum Aloo or Aloo Dum, a rich and special dish in Kashmiri Cuisine and also in Punjabi Cuisine.

You can have Dum Aloo using 19 ingredients and 6 steps. Here is how you cook it.

Ingredients of Dum Aloo

  1. Prepare 6 of small size Potato.

  2. Prepare 1 of Finely chopped Onion.

  3. You need 1 of Finely chopped Tomato.

  4. It’s 1 of Green Chilli.

  5. Prepare 3 tsp of oil.

  6. It’s 1/2 bowl of Fresh Malai/cream.

  7. You need 1 teaspoon of Red chilli powder.

  8. It’s 1 teaspoon of Coriander powder.

  9. It’s 1 teaspoon of Turmeric powder.

  10. Prepare 1 teaspoon of kitchen king masala.

  11. It’s 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds.

  12. Prepare to taste of Salt.

  13. Prepare of FOR POTATO FILLING.

  14. It’s 50 gm of Paneer.

  15. You need 50 gm of Green Peas.

  16. You need 1 of smalll Onion.

  17. You need 1 of small Tomato.

  18. You need 1 of Green chilli.

  19. It’s 8-9 of raisin/kishmish.

The baby potatoes are first deep fried, then cooked slowly at low flame in a gravy with spices.

Aloo Dum is an exotic delicious main dish.

Just the smell of aloo dum can make you hungry!

To make this dish, potatoes are fried and then soaked in the spicy aromatic gravy.

Dum Aloo step by step

  1. Chop onion, tomato, peas and green chilli in chopper. Take a pan,heat 1tablespoon oil on medium flame. Add 1 teaspoon cumin seed. Now add chopped veg to it. Stir for 5 minutes then add crushed paneer. Stir fry for 2 minutes and turn off the flame,keep aside.

  2. Now peel potatoes and hollow them. Heat oil in a pan and fry all the potatoes till they turn golden brown. Now fill them with the mixture..

  3. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a pan, add 1 tablespoon cumin seeds to it. Add finely chopped onion, green chilli and salt. Stir until it turns golden brown. Add finely chopped tomato to it and Mix well.

  4. Now add red chilli powder, coriander powder, Kitchen king masala(optional) and turmeric powder. Stir and mix well on med flame..

  5. Now add small bowl of fresh malai in it and stir for 5 min. Add required water and continue to boil until gravy thickens..

  6. Add pototoes and mix. Cover pan with lid for 5 minutes. Turn Off the flame and garnish with coriander leaves and fresh cream..

I wanted to try Dum Aloo recipe for so long,but never happened.

Each time when I buy small potato,I end up in making other small potato recipes like small potato curry or small potato biryani.

Dum Aloo translates to pressure(Dum) cooked Aloo.

Whole Baby Potatoes are pressure cooked by Some people use Cashew gravy which can give Dum Aloo good taste, but then will result in Subzi.
